A ‘social’ experiment

A school counselor and social worker at IS 206 in the Bronx developed an innovative way to address their students' social-emotional needs following the pandemic: a student lounge complete with music, games and items meant to encourage socialization and teamwork.

Paraprofessionals across the city have embraced the opportunity to participate at long last in Teacher’s Choice.
After years of advocacy by the union, paraprofessionals were included in the program beginning in the 2023-24 school year. Learn how these seven paraprofessionals used their Teacher's Choice allotment this school year.


Space for 'rezoflexion'

Paraprofessionals at P256 in Queens, a District 75 school for high-school-age boys, pooled their Teacher's Choice funds to refresh a key space used by their students to calm themselves and reflect on their emotions. They celebrated the grand opening of what the students call the Rezoflexion Room.

Making the leap — together

This school year, PS 133 in Harlem has three newly minted teachers who were employed as paraprofessionals at the school the previous year. The three, who have fashioned a mini support group for one another, are grateful for the help of the ÐãÐãÖ±²¥and the UFT Teacher Center in facilitating their climb up the career ladder.


A safe Nest for autistic students

A team of teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists and other related service providers create an environment where students with autism and general education students can learn in their 5th-grade Nest classroom at PS 682 in Brooklyn.
